What a Business Website Needs to Turn Visitors into Customers

The essentials every business website needs, from the first screen to the contact button, to turn visitors from Google, social media and AI search into customers.

By the FullFound team · · 6 min read

Your website has one job: help the right visitor decide to contact you, book or buy. Most people arrive on a phone, from a search, a social post or an AI answer, and decide within seconds whether to stay. These are the things that make them stay.

A first screen that answers three questions

Before scrolling, a visitor should know what you do, where you do it, and how to get in touch. "Emergency plumbing across North Dallas. Call now" does all three. A beautiful photo with a vague slogan does none of them.

One obvious next step

Pick the action that matters most, whether that's call, book, order or request a quote, and make it a clear button that stays easy to reach on a phone. Several competing buttons of equal weight make people hesitate.

Your services, spelled out

List what you offer in the words customers use. Each main service deserves a short section, or its own page, saying what it is, who it's for and, where you can, roughly what it costs. This is also what search engines and AI assistants read to work out what you can be recommended for.

Proof

Reviews, photos of real work, the people on your team, years in business, certifications. Visitors are deciding whether to trust you; show them why they can.

Answers to common questions

A short questions section, or articles on the questions customers ask most, saves you phone time and helps visitors who search those exact questions find you.

Fast, and built for phones

Most visitors are on a phone, often on a slow connection. Big uncompressed images and heavy pop-ups cost you customers. Check your own site on your phone, on mobile data, and fix whatever annoys you.

Details that match everywhere

Your name, address, phone and hours on your website should match your Google Business Profile and directory listings exactly.

Kept current

Old prices, last year's hours and a blog last updated three years ago all tell visitors you may not be around. A site that's clearly maintained earns more trust and gives search engines a reason to come back.
